Srinagar, Sep 10 (KNO): Reasi assembly segment in Jammu division is witnessing the sixth generation of a family in the electoral fray in the 2024 assembly polls, slated to go to the polls in the first phase on September 18. Diksha Kaluria (27), a youngest candidate, is the six generation of General Zorawar Singh. She has been contesting the polls for the first time. The four generations in between General Zorawar Singh and Diksha Kaluria include Inder Singh, Chatter Singh, Jameet Singh and Davinder Singh. She has been associated with General Zorawar Singh Memorial Educational and Charitable Trust (ZSMECT). Speaking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Kaluria said that she is the youngest among all the candidates who are contesting elections from Reasi. "As a social activist, I have worked in the district. During Covid-19, we provided free of cost education to over 300 students in Vijaypur and Derababar villages of the area besides that we have been providing fees, free uniforms and other things to the needy students,” she said. About her decision of joining politics, she said that whenever they visit any leader or official for work, they get only assurances while most people don't let women go ahead in any field, thus she took the step to share her bit in bringing a positive change. She said that Reasi district has great tourism potential and that it needs to bring on a tourism map that will help in the development of the district besides that it will open employment opportunities for the youth. She said that there are resources like lithium that needs to be properly handled for the development of district and employment opportunities for youth. “Power is generated from our district but most of the people working in these power projects are non-locals and there is need to work upon it so that only locals can be engaged there besides that there are toll plaza issues and better education issues that need to be looked into,” Diksha said—(KNO)
